About me
Laurel Neme is a journalist and author who writes about wildlife and wild places. As a young girl, she wanted to be a large animal veterinarian and talk to the animals like Dr. Dolittle. Later, she dreamed of being an animal scientist like Jane Goodall. Eventually, she decided to help animals in her own way―by telling their stories. She is a regular contributor to National Geographic, Mongabay and others, co-hosts The WildLife Podcast, and is the author of four books (so far): ANIMAL INVESTIGATORS: How the World’s First Wildlife Forensics Lab is Solving Crimes and Saving Endangered Species, ORANGUTAN HOUDINI, THE ELEPHANT’S NEW SHOE, and THE GIRAFT: A Real-Life Giraffe Rescue (out in March 2026). She lives in Vermont with her family—including their super smart German shepherd who loves to do the laundry.
